How do we relate to the place where we live? Is that what we call home? Or are we not always strangers too?

People with memories and desires in search of their own place to call home. A home that is both inside and out. This is a story about longing. A longing to belong, a longing for home. A coming together of nostalgia and melancholy. Nostalgia, the lack of a place and melancholy the longing for an atmosphere, feeling or memory.

Belonging – to be acknowledged – a basic need of every human being.
This need becomes more pressing when you come to live in a different place. I have been privileged to have been and continue to be such a stranger. That happened when I came to live in the Netherlands as an 18-year-old. I was a stranger in a city far away from my home and that’s when my search for home began.

I discovered that home does not necessarily have to be a physical place. Home can be anywhere, where memories and desires meet.
